Every save file ends eventually. This week I’m retiring wotakunai.com.
Before pulling the plug, I took one last walk around the place.
This is how it looked on its final day: a quiet grey layout, a penguin in the sidebar, and a tagline I never got around to changing: “I love the new Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D game!” For the record, I still do.
Wotakunai ran from 2017 to 2025. Most of it was reviews, about fifty of them split almost evenly between anime and manga. Around those were Pokémon VGC and shiny hunting posts, Sakamichi rankings and music video write-ups, Eiyuden Chronicle guides from a 130-hour hardest-difficulty run, and one poem that snuck in under its own category.

The last post there is dated January 1, 2025, and it’s titled simply “2025.” In it I said the thing I wanted most that year was to finish my backlog. Then the site went quiet. Reading it now makes me laugh a little, because Backlog is literally a category on this site.
Why retire it
Two sites meant two homes to keep up, and I’d stopped visiting one of them. Sidequesthings is where everything lives now: games, anime, idols, Japanese, the things I build, even poems from twenty years ago. Keeping Wotakunai running on its own would have been upkeep for a place nobody was living in, including me.
Where the posts went
Nothing was thrown away. All 62 posts and 266 images moved here, tagged Wotakunai Archive and marked Completed. Anime and manga reviews now sit in Otaku Journal, games in Backlog, Sakamichi posts in Slope Stroll, and the personal pieces in Marginalia.
There’s no redirect. The old address will simply stop answering. It felt more honest to close the door than to leave a sign pointing somewhere else.
Wotakunai isn’t gone
The name stays. It’s still my handle on various Gaming and MAL, and the voice that wrote all those reviews is the same one writing about Palworld hours and Dragon Quest demos here.
The penguin got a new look too: reversed colors, navy badge with orange lines, as the alter ego of the Sidequesthings compass mark.

Thanks to everyone who read, commented, or stumbled in from a search result over the years. Quest complete. On to the next one.
